Wiser looked for air fryers a family of two to four can actually cook with: 4.5 to 5 litres, in stock, under RM250. The winner is an international brand at a local-brand price. The one to skip is a perfectly good fryer that costs RM40 more than a better one.
How Wiser picked these five
The rule was simple: 4.5 to 5 litres, orderable in Malaysia today, under RM250, and the price has to be visible on a page Wiser could open. Xiaomi’s Malaysian store shows RM0 without JavaScript, so no Xiaomi fryer made the list even though the Essential 6L would have been a contender. Philips’ 1000 Series NA120 sits at RM259 at the cheapest retailer, just over the line.
Wiser preferred the brand’s own store where it showed a price (Russell Taylors, Pensonic’s Circle Z) and used Senheng, COURTS and THT Online for the rest.
What matters at this price
Basket size decides how often you cook in batches. 4.5 L handles two people or a tray of wings. 5 L is the point where a family of four stops cooking twice. Both Midea and Pensonic give you 5 L; only one of them is priced right.
Power is a proxy for speed. 1500–1600 W (Gaabor, Midea) preheats faster and crisps better than 1200 W (Russell Taylors Z3). If you mostly reheat and do small portions, 1200 W is fine and the window makes up for it.
Windows are worth it. Opening the basket to check food drops the temperature every time. Three of the five have a window with a light. The Gaabor does not, which is part of why it is RM169.
Warranty length is where local brands used to win. Not any more: Russell Taylors offers 2 years, Senheng adds a free year to the Midea, and Khind, Gaabor and Pensonic are all 1 year.
Digital or dials
Digital panels give you presets and precise timers; dials are simpler and cheaper to fix. The Midea listing is confusing here: Midea’s own sheet says mechanical, Senheng’s says digital with 8 menus. Wiser’s verdict stands either way on capacity, power and warranty, but if a touch panel matters to you, confirm it in the store before paying.
When to buy
Air fryers are heavily discounted on every same-digit sale day and on payday weekends. The Russell Taylors Z3 already shows a 50% strikethrough on the brand site, so there is little left to wait for. The Khind is worth watching: its own store lists it at RM239 when in stock, so RM209 at THT is the better deal while it lasts.
